ASUU Strike: The NANS Reveal Plans To Occupy The Ministry Of Education

Farouk Lawal, the factional president of the National Association of Nigerian Students, has revealed plans to occupy the education ministry space if the strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is not called off.

Lawal made this known while speaking with journalists in Abuja on Thursday, September 8.

The factional president noted that the students will come up with an idea that will ensure peace reigns in the Nigerian public universities.

Recall that the Academic Staff Union of Universities embarked on this industrial strike on February 14. Despite several meetings with the federal government, the issues are yet to be resolved.

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, speaking on a program on Channels TV on Wednesday, September 7, revealed that the Federal Government has made a shift to the union’s demand.

Adamu, while tasking the students to cast their frustrations on the union, made it known that the striking lecturers are not ready to make a shift to their demand.

Speaking in Abuja, the NANS president noted that they are giving the government an ultimatum to resolve issues with the striking lecturers or else students will be mobilized to occupy the premises of the ministry.

The ASUU President has made it known that unless the government makes a 100% increment in their salaries, the strike will not be called off.
