In the Kankara local government region of Katsina State, bandits killed six individuals on Thursday, including vigilantes.
Gambo Isah, the state police command’s spokesman, confirmed the event to journalists in Katsina on Friday but denied reports that 30 persons were murdered in the assault.
After police officers who had responded to the scene of the tragedy gave their report, he pledged to reveal the precise number of casualties.
The spokesman said: “Our team led by the Area Commander has the scene of the incident and until I get feedback from them, I cannot give you the number of casualties.
“The information at our disposal is that the terrorists ambushed members of a vigilante group after some informants had alerted them that they were being pursued in the area.”
