Honeymoon over as Shekarau accuses NNPP of marginalising supporters

by Ebor Cletus Ralph Jr

Ibrahim Shekarau, a former governor of Kano State, charged the party’s leadership on Monday with disenfranchising party members.

In May, the former minister of education left the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the NNPP due to the same marginalisation grievance.
Before the court gave the governor of Kano State control of the party, he also competed with Governor Abdullahi Ganduje for the position of APC leader in the state.

Shekarau urged his followers to be patient and wait for his ultimate choice on whether to stay in the party or leave it when he spoke to members of the NNPP Advisory Council from the state’s 44 local government districts.

He added that his supporters were marginalised in the NNPP contrary to the existing agreement.

The ex-governor said: “We reached an agreement with the NNPP to accommodate my supporters in various elective positions in the party.

“However, the party has failed to accommodate a single person apart from the senatorial slot given to me.”

He also revealed that the party did not consult him on the fate of his supporters seeking elective positions on the party’s platform.
