There is no doubt that political parties have started making plans ahead of the commencement of Presidential Campaign, as Presidential Candidates will have the opportunity to sell themselves and tell the electorates the new things they are bringing if elected into power. Arise TV invited the Director, Centre For Democracy And Development (CDD), Idayat Hassan who spoke extensively on political violence and the chances of Peter Obi of the Labour Party in the forthcoming election.

According to her, she said INEC statistics showed that the youths have the highest number of registered voters and that even in the Osun election, the youths came out in their numbers to vote for their candidate. Idayat Hassan said from their findings, they believe since the youths registered more for the collection of Permanent Voters Card (PVC), it will strengthen the amount of votes Peter Obi will likely get in the 2023 presidential election.

Speaking on the influence of social media in election, Idayat Hassan said her commission did an aggregation in the 2019 election using Twitter data of 33M tweets, and found out that 44% of the tweets were from Nigerians in diaspora. She stated that the kind of social media (online) campaign they are witnessing presently hasn’t been witnessed in previous years, and that such campaign might transform offline.
