Chelsea fans are currently unhappy with the performance of their shot stopper, let alone his decision to turn down a contract extension which includes new terms. Chelsea are currently experiencing the effects of letting players leave for free and this they have learnt from in a very hard way.
Hence, the Blues are trying to ensure their current players do not follow that same trajectory. They are offering their current players new and improved contract extension deals at the club to keep them tied to the club for a long time.
England international, Reece James recently renewed his contract with the club. His new deal with Chelsea keeps him at the club for a long term. The defender signed a six year deal at the club.
Chelsea striker, Armando Broja also renewed his contract as well. He signed a six year deal to remain at the club for a long time. This seems to be a trend for the club who do not want to lose players for free like Rudiger and Christensen did.
However, Senegalese goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has turned down Chelsea’s contract extension offer. The AFCON winner’s current contract ends in 2025, that is three years from now. But the Blues aren’t taking any chances on the goalkeeper.
Edouard Mendy’s decision to turn down the offer is believed to be due to the new terms of the contract which he is not comfortable with. The Senegalese goalkeeper is one of the lowest earners at the club. His current earnings is far below that of Spanish goalkeeper Kepa who has been relegated to the bench.
Chelsea fans aren’t buying any reason behind his decision to reject the new offer due to his performance so far this season. They were the quick to react to the news and are of the opinion that he should take the offer or leave.
