An Ilorin Magistrate Court, Kwara State on Wednesday ordered the remand of 14 suspected cult members who allegedly attacked three members of a family in the state capital, last Saturday.
The Police Prosecutor alleged that Basheer Onimago, Kareem Onimago and Quadri Onimango of Onimango compound, Ilorin were attacked by suspected cult members during a clash which occurred at Baboko, Ile Onimago and Adabata areas in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State in which cutlasses, broken bottles and other dangerous materials were used.
The suspected cultists were dragged to court for the alleged offence of conspiracy, disturbance of public peace, and culpable homicide among other capital offences.
The suspects, according to the police charge sheet, include; Mustapha Onide, Abdulmalik Abdulfatai, Kehinde Onimango, Ahmed Onide, Tunde Onide, Jimoh Ridwon Sapo, Ibrahim Onaolapo Onide and Abdulgafar Fatai.
Others are Abdulrasak Abubakar, Yusuf Mumini Onimango, Hammed Abubakar Onimango, Hussein Bello, Adam Olanrewaju and Jimoh Olayinka.
The Police First Information Report revealed that the complainants, while “dripping from injuries they sustained on their faces as a result of the attack, reported at the police station that they were attacked for inquiring about the N6000 failed transaction at a Point of Sale with one Ibrahim Rasheed.”
The charge sheet added that “the suspects descended on the complainant, insulting and assaulting them.
“In the process, they cartered away phones valued at N2.3m, one Rolex wristwatch, N500,000 cash and also vandalised their vehicles.
“The suspects and others at large are members of Aiye and Eiye secret cults who went on a rampage attacking, maiming and killing innocent people and destroying their properties in Ilorin metropolis and environs.”
Magistrate Issa Agbetola who presided over the matter, refused the bail application moved by their counsel.
He ordered that they should be remanded at the Federal Correctional Centre at Mandala, Ilorin and adjourned the case till May 8, 2024, for further hearing of the matter.
