In a daring joint operation, police forces and vigilant community members successfully freed three kidnapping victims in Omupo District, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, with one assailant meeting his demise during the rescue.
The hostages, comprising two Fulani women and one husband, were seized from their encampments near Gaa Sulu village over the weekend. However, on Sunday, February 25, 2024, hunters and vigilantes from Miyetti Allah, working in tandem with law enforcement, orchestrated a swift rescue mission.
Elder Olaitan Oyin Zubair, Coordinator of the Joint Security Network, Kwara South District, detailed the operation, stating, “Upon learning of the abduction, our vigilant forces sprang into action, scouring the forests. A fierce exchange of gunfire ensued, resulting in the demise of one assailant and the capture of five others.”
He continued, “The courageous efforts of our hunters, bolstered by support from local residents, led to the liberation of the captives and the apprehension of several criminals.”
Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, corroborated the account, underscoring the successful collaboration between law enforcement and community stakeholders in combating crime and ensuring the safety of citizens.
