EDO 2024: A CHOICE BETWEEN A PHILANTHROPIST AND THE ADMINISTRATIVE GENIUS – Ivans Coker.

As political activities with a view to electing a new governor, shift into a feverish frenzy in Edo State, a political commentator bares his mind on two major front runners in the build up to whom occupies Denis Osadebe Avenue after Gov. Godwin Obaseki. Here are his thoughts…

It is often time said that giving is an act of God. At individual lives, people has been touched by giving. This giving, though it can have different interpretations and meanings; it is not always good at all times, even though it may be deserving. Another way to see giving is CHARITY. What we personally or individually have can be given on charity, but; when it comes to managing our collective wealth for the growth and development the society, especially local, state or national economy; this act of charity must be checked. Whatever is done, is always done for a reason and for a season. For the purpose of clarities: GOVERNMENT IS A SOCIAL CONTRACT.
What we own ourselves and the generations yet unborn is to be conscientised in making choices. The choice we make today will not and can never affect us alone. Informed decisions shapes the course of our societal growth(s).

Why do we help others? Perhaps the foremost motivation is that we are all moved by feelings of empathy, compassion, and reciprocity, albeit with different intensities, so that our individual utilities depend also on the wellbeing of others. But pure altruism is not the end of the story. An additional motivation is the desire to be publicly praised and acclaimed, maybe to gain social status. Another possibility is that helping others provides, by itself, a utility to the helper, the so-called “Warm-glow” feeling. Helping others is also a moral and religious duty in many cultures, which means that many are compelled to help just to adhere to a social norm. All of these motivations, combined together, explain the existence of institutions that foster altruistic, pro-social, behavior, such as charity organizations. Notwithstanding the above; the future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams. Our dreams; individual or collectively cannot be easily realized by charity; in my personal opinion. In a well-managed economic environment, where personal or collective enterprise grows; development can be seen and felt. DO NOT GIVE FISH TO US AT ALL TIMES; BUT, TEACH US HOW TO FISH.

For me as Well, I believe we, the Edo people of today, are ready to act worthy of ourselves, ready to do what must be done to ensure happiness and liberty for ourselves, our children, and our children’s children. And as we renew ourselves here in our own land (Edo State), we will be seen as having greater strength throughout the nation.

Above all, we must realize that no arsenal or no weapon in the arsenals of the world, in any disguise or forms is so formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women of our dear state. It is a weapon our adversaries in today’s political world do not have. It is a weapon that we as Edo people do have. Let that be understood by those who practice the other types and prey upon their neighbors. I am told that tens of thousands of prayer meetings are being held on this day, and for that I am deeply grateful. We are a people under God, and I believe God intended for us to be free. By our informed choice of voting; we can be free.

Political governance is bout prudent management of our collective resources or wealth. This by way of knowing constitute resources and develop them to improve our lives and living. NOT NECESSARILY GIVING OR BY CHARITY.
Therefore; what comes to our minds to meditate is this basic question: WHO IS MOST QUALIFY AND KNOWN TO MANAGE AND DELIVER DEVELOPMENT TO US?
Immediately the questions is properly answered and a resourceful persons sworn in to govern and manage our economies; most of our challenges shall be resolved. All over the world today, CHARITY driven economies are collapsing and ENTERPRISE driven economies are expanding. We cannot choose to be different, especially looking at our level of and type of economy we operate in Nigeria.

In my candid conclusion; We must refer to encourage that person or candidate that has the currency of performance such that his proven credentials speaks volumes and get our economy liberated.
Whoever spends monies to get relationship for votes must recoup them. This will deny us our much desired developments.
