Headies Award: Why Ruger Should Win The Next Rated Award Ahead Of Buju, Ayra Starr, Zino And Lojay

The 2022 Headies award is scheduled to take place today, the organizers of the award show will present awards to several Nigerian artistes that have distinguished themselves and have impacted the music industry positively by releasing hit songs and outstanding music projects. Winners will emerge from different categories, but one category that a lot of people are always interested in is the “Next Rated Category”.

The Headies award next rated category is specifically for young Nigerian artistes that had their breakthrough in the year under review, the winner of this category is given the Headies award plaque and a brand new car. Several Nigerian music superstars such as Wande Coal, Wizkid, Davido, Patoranking and Mayorkun have all won the Next Rated Category at some point in their career. This year, Ruger, Lojay, Bnxn (Buju), Ayra Starr and Zinoleesky are the young Nigerian artistes that are nominated.

Although all the artistes that are nominated in the Next Rated Category for this year’s Headies award have been outstanding, i believe Ruger is more deserving of the award. Ruger has released two highly successful E.P’s, he has the most number of solo hit songs among all the artistes that were nominated, his fan base has even grown beyond Nigeria and he has been performing at music shows and festivals all over the world. 

Ruger emerged as the winner of Afrima’s award Best New Artiste in 2021, he recently released the deluxe version of his last E.P “The Second Wave” which has one of the biggest songs in Nigeria this year “Girlfriend”. I believe he deserves to emerge as the winner of the Next Rated Category for 2022.
