Assassination Attempt: Sir Salman Rushdie On A ventilator And Risks Losing An Eye.

British – Indian world acclaimed author and writer, Sir Salman Rushdie is on a ventilator and may lose an eye after he was stabbed on stage in the state of New York.

According to New York Times, the 75-year-old sustained nerve damage to his arm and damage to his liver.

New York state police department had named the suspected attacker as Hadi Matar, 24, of Fairview, New Jersey, and he has been arrested for attempted murder and assault.

The police further announced on Saturday that, Matar has been transported to Chautauqua County Jail and will be arraigned later in the day.

Recall that, Salman Rushdie had incurred the wrath of the Muslim world and most especially, the former Supreme leader of Iran, Ayatollah Khomeini in the mid 80s over his novel, ‘The Satanic Verses’. In the estimation of Khomeini then, the content of the novel was blasphemous of the person of Prophet Mohammed. Consequently, he pronounced a dealt sentence on him. It is however not clear whether this present attempt on Rusdie’s life, has anything to do with Khomeini’s over three decades’ order.
