The Vanguard Newspaper Online reported yesterday night that Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State reacted when Walid Jibrin abruptly resigned as chairman of the PDP’s Board of Trustees and was immediately replaced by a southerner.
He claimed that Atiku Abubakar told Wike that Senator Iyorchia Ayu needed to step down as party leader.
He said, “When we finished our convention on Sunday, our presidential candidate (Atiku Abubakar) came to see me in my house in Abuja on Monday around 10:30 am. He told me ‘I want us to work together,’ and then he said, ‘look, Ayu must go.'”
When Wike questioned Atiku about why he had suggested Ayu step down, Atiku reportedly responded, “Because, when a candidate comes from the Northern side of the country, the chairman will come from the Southern half of the country,” according to Wike.
Wike proceeded by asserting that he has done nothing wrong and that all he is asking now is that Atiku carry out the promises he made to him back then.
I want the presidential candidate to refute this, he continued. If he says otherwise, I’ll say even more to Nigerians because enough is enough.
