During a recent press briefing in Abuja on Monday, March 11, Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, delivered an optimistic message regarding the ongoing efforts to address the prevalent power outages in Nigeria. Recognizing the significant challenges faced by citizens due to frequent power disruptions, Adelabu assured the public of the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to resolving the underlying issues causing these crises.
In his address, Adelabu emphasized the importance of patience from Nigerians as the Ministry works diligently to tackle the root causes of the power challenges. He outlined an ambitious target to increase power generation capacity from the current 4500 MW to 6500 MW, underscoring the government’s determination to significantly improve the electricity supply across the nation.
Furthermore, Adelabu acknowledged the subpar performance of electricity distribution companies (DisCos) and pledged to implement appropriate sanctions against those failing to meet their obligations. He also revealed comprehensive plans to reassess the coverage areas of certain DisCos to ensure equitable distribution of electricity, particularly to underserved communities.
