Reece James Is On The Right Path To Become A Chelsea Captain

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea is on the verge of agreeing long term deal with Reece James. The West London club wants to offer the 22-year-old a 6-year contract with an option to extend for a further year. If Chelsea succeed, or should I say when, because it’s just a matter of time, Reece James will be tied down at Chelsea till the summer of 2028.

Despite the speculations about Real Madrid Signing Reece James and Manchester City eyeing him, the England International is ready to commit his future and the better part of his career to his boyhood Club.

Apart from the record salary for a Defender at Chelsea that the Blues wants to offer Reece James, there’s also the Captain armband of the West London club on stake for Reece James.

With the moves that Chelsea made this summer, it’s just a matter of time before one of the Youngsters take up the Captaincy of the club, and at the moment, Reece James is the leading candidate.

With the Signings that Chelsea made this summer, the Blues are already preparing for the future. They offered Armando Broja a 6-year contract, that’s a big tell that the Albania National will become Chelsea Number 9 after Pierre Emerick Aubameyang leaves. Of course, when it’s time for all these Youngsters to cement their spot in Chelsea first team, they will need a leader and who’s better to lead than Reece James who has been one of the most consistently good Players at Chelsea in recent seasons?

Cesar Azpilicueta is current Chelsea Captain with Jorginho and N’Golo Kante deputizing him. Cesar Azpilicueta’s contract will expire in the next two years while N’Golo Kante and Jorginho will become free agents next summer. Even if Chelsea retain them, they might not get more than 2 years because they would have entered their 30’s, thereby paving way for Reece James to become Captain.

Reece James just needs to stay consistent with his performance and when the time comes, there won’t be anyone to say that he doesn’t deserve it. Chelsea Legendary Captain John Terry has already tipped Reece James to become a Captain.
