The Department of State Service (DSS) reportedly recommended the All Progressives Congress (APC) against running a Muslim-Muslim ticket in the general elections of 2023, but the news was denied by the presidency on Friday.

An account of the DSS’s letter to President Muhammadu Buhari expressing concern that a Muslim-Muslim ticket might start a new sectarian conflict that could destabilise the country surfaced on Friday.
The National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno, told the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, to carefully consider the security repercussions of his pick before making it public, according to the report.
Last Sunday, Tinubu chose Kashim Shettima, a former governor of Borno State, as his running mate.

The decision has attracted backlash in the country, especially among the Christian community.

The president referred to the allegation as a blatant fabrication and encouraged Nigerians to disregard it in a statement released by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the President, Garba Shehu.

The report, according to the presidency, was created to sow discord between Tinubu and Shettima.

“This so-called publication is like a lethal virus,” Shehu stated.
