The Ansaru terrorist organisation assaulted the Damari settlement in Kazaga Ward in Birnin-Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Friday night, resulting in at least 13 fatalities and numerous injuries.
The terrorists broke into the neighbourhood at around midnight, according to the Birnin-Gwari Emirate Progressives Union (BEPU), which verified the incident in a statement on Saturday morning. They then went on a shooting rampage, set structures on fire, and looted food and cattle.
The BEPU claims that many locals were forced to leave their homes in search of safety as the attackers rampaged across the area unchecked because there was no security personnel present to stop them.
In the statement issued by BEPU Chairman, the group called on the Kaduna State government and security agencies to come to the aid of communities in the council as they were now at the mercy of terrorists and bandits.
“On Friday night, Damari town of Kazaga Ward in Birnin-Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State came under attack by Ansaru terrorist group.
“13 of our people were killed by the terrorists who had a field day as there was no security personnel to challenge them. They looted food items, livestock and set buildings on fire.
“The people of Damari had to flee en masse following the incessant attack by terrorists that besieged the farming community of Damari.
“We are pleading and calling on the Kaduna State government and security agencies to come to the aid of the people of Birnin-Gwari communities because we are under siege”, he said.
