ASUU strike: NANS Seeks Buhari’s Urgent Intervention

The National Association of Nigerian Students has called on the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) to intervene in the lingering strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities to enable students to return to school.

The newly elected President of NANS, Mr Usman Barambu, made the call at a news conference on Monday in Abuja.

Barambu described as worrisome the lingering dispute between ASUU and the Federal Government which had lasted for about seven months.

He noted that the incessant strikes had affected the academic calendar of public owned universities.

Police aRescue Human Trafficking Victim, Arrest Two Facilitators In Sokoto

The Sokoto State Police Command has rescued a female victim of human trafficking while two facilitators at the Illela border town have been apprehended.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Mohammed Gumel, while addressing newsmen in Sokoto on Monday, explained that it was part of the mandate of the X-Squad quick reaction force recently launched by the command.

According to Gumel, “It is in pursuance of this mandate, the command on September 2 responded to a distress call by one of the migrants who was trapped at Illela border town to Niger Republic.”

Hundreds Of Boko Haram Fighters Flee To New Location

Hundreds of Boko Haram fighters have reportedly fled Gaftari village to a new location in Bazamri, close to Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State, northeast Nigeria.

Gaftari village is located between Bama and Konduga local government areas of Borno State where military operations had hindered the operations of the terrorists recently.

The two local government areas are within a distance of 35km and 60km away from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

Vice Chancellors Announce Negotiation Team On ASUU Strike

The Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (CVCNU) has set up a team on the Federal Government (FG)-Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) face-off.

Ex-Secretary-General and Team Co-coordinator, Prof. Michael Faborode spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Tuesday.

Faborode said no serving VC or pro-chancellor is included in the peace body, adding that membership was based on the record of service.
