The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, says the Federal Government is committed to redeeming the image of education at all levels.

The minister spoke on Thursday in Abuja at the commencement of the 2022 Nationwide Capacity Building Workshops for Nigerian Teachers.

The programme was organised by the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI), Kaduna, in collaboration with SDGs, UBEC, NCC and others.

Represented by the Minister of State for Education, Goodluck Nanah-Opiah, the minister also said that the federal government would continue to ensure that teachers get the best.

”This informed the implementation of the new salary structure for teachers, elongated retirement and service age, as well as increased emoluments.

”The Federal Government is also committed to the provision of quality education at all levels,” Mr Adamu said.

The minister also said that the Buhari regime would continue to promote digital literacy and sustain capacity building for all teachers in the country.

Mr Adamu pledged to sustain support to NTI for it to continue to champion teacher education, training and retraining.

He described teaching as a noble profession, while teachers were very crucial in the process of nation building.

Mr Adamu lauded NTI for organising the event, saying, ”the Institute had successfully trained many teachers in different domains.

The minister also promised to sustain support to NTI to consolidate its achievements and bolster its performance.

Atiku Abubakar is the surest bet for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as its candidate for the 2023 presidential election, former Vice-President Namadi Sambo, declared in Kaduna on Thursday.

Sambo made the declaration at the inauguration of the National Mandate Group (NMG) of the PDP.

He described Abubakar as a unifier, whose political pedigree was not in doubt.

He commended the group for its quest to birth a new Nigeria, adding that the group had come at the right time.

“As we can see, the group has patriotic Nigerians who believe in the unity, peace, and progress of the country while pursuing the enthronement of true democratic values and good governance.

“As you are aware, what is happening in Nigeria needs prayers and contribution of everyone for the present situation to change completely for a better Nigeria.

“It is our responsibility now to ensure that we elect a better person who will lead us in this country and that is one of the mandates of the group,’’ he said.

Sambo was represented by an aide, one Mr. Muhammadu Bako.

Fielding questions after the inauguration, Mr. Abubakar Mustapha, Chairman of the occasion, told newsmen that NMG was supporting Abubakar because he remained the best candidate and more qualified than his opponents.

In his remarks, Mr. Abubakar Haruna, former PDP Chairman in Kaduna State, commended NMG for spreading across the 23 Local Government Areas of the state.

He said the coverage would help to create the desired awareness that would lead to PDP’s victory at the 2023 polls.

Haruna charged coordinators of NMG to return to their wards and mobilize massive support for the PDP.

We’re Losing Members To Labour Party In Benue, APC Chieftain Laments

Anthony Obekpa, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Benue, says the party is losing members to Labour Party (LP) in Ogbadibo LGA of the state.

In a statement, Obekpa said Austin Agada, Benue APC chairman, is not bothered about the situation in his LGA despite efforts to meet him to find a lasting solution.

The chieftain said the outcome of the situation would be devastating during the 2023 polls if nothing is done to address it.

“It is no longer news that our immediate past local government secretary Hon Eloyi Ogbe has moved to the labour party. His decision to defect to the labour party is obviously not unconnected to recent developments in the APC leadership in Ogbadibo and zone C in general,” the statement reads.

“Our staunch members are defecting daily. Our state chairman, Comrade Austin Agada it seems is not bothered about the candidates from Ogbadibo winning or not.

“I think he is content being the chairman and having Rev. Fr. Alia as Governorship candidate. I don’t have his ears anymore. I am not on the same page with him as he has made some people believe.

“He is not communicating with me. The scouts of the Labour Party are hoovering around APC stakeholders. Their aspirants are consulting, recruiting and convincing our party faithful.

“We must do something except if we have all decided to abandon the party. If the party wins at the centre and we don’t have representatives at the state assembly and national assembly I am sure we all know we will be back to square one.”

Obekpa said no matter what happens, he would not leave the APC.

2023: We’ll Beat Atiku, Obi Social Media Creation – APC’s Onanuga

The Director, Media and Publicity of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Presidential Campaign Council, Bayo Onanuga, says its party presidential candidate, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has a better chance of winning the 2023 presidential elections.

He stated this while analysing the prospects of Bola Ahmed Tinubu defeating Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) respectively, on the Arise TV Morning Show program on Thursday.

Onanuga had dismissed Peter Obi as a social media phenomenon, saying Obi is a social media creation.

‘’The last statement I issued was about Peter Obi being a social media creation, which I believe he is a social media creation; very soon, he will pan out. He will fade out. So that’s the position,’’ he declared.

He explained how the elections would be won in the South West:

‘‘We are not really troubled about whatever people perceive as happening. We are strong in the South West; everybody should know that; that is the home base of our presidential candidate. Whatever happened in Osun State was a local issue. Probably the people didn’t want the government to come back, but it’s going to be a different ball game in the presidential election; we are very certain of that.

‘’As for Lagos State, of course, you know it is also our stronghold. We believe we are going to win Lagos with a very wide margin despite the presence of the ‘obedients’ in the state, ditto Ogun and Oyo states, as well as the entire South West.’’

According to him, APC has made serious incursions in the South East and South-South.

”We are making inroads into the South East. Don’t forget that there are two APC states in the South East. If the people decide to follow the ‘Obedients’ or the PDP, we are sure that we are going to win, at least the minimum votes in Ebonyi and Imo states. Which is a very good one. That’s what we are projecting.

‘’And if you go further to the South-South, we are very strong in Delta state. We are strong in Edo state. Rivers state is up for grabs. We follow what has been going on between Governor Nyesom Wike and Atiku Abubakar, so we are very comfortable,” he said.

Further analysing how the elections will turn out in the North, he said APC has an advantage over other parties

‘’If you go to the North, of course, I think we are the party to beat in North West part of Nigeria. In North Central, we are going to make a lot of incursions. In Kogi State, for instance, can PDP or ‘’Obedients’’ ever hope to upstage us in Benue State or Plateau State, where the governor is also the DG of our presidential campaign.

‘’Don’t forget that our Vice Presidential candidate comes from the North East region where Atiku comes from. We already believed that we have at least two states in our pocket: Borno and Yobe. And we are going to make a lot of incursions in other states, including Adamawa state, where Atiku hails from.

‘’So we are going to win this election, hands down. We are going to beat Atiku, and he knows we are going to beat him,’’ he noted.
