Ifagbemi Awamaridi, the factional chairman and governorship candidate for the Labour Party in Lagos State, has warned that attempts to usurp his authority as the “bonafide chairman and governorship candidate of the party” will result in the rejection of Peter Obi’s bid for the presidency.

In a phone interview with Saturday Punch on Friday, Awamaridi claimed that he had not been ousted or replaced in accordance with any legal process.

He continued by mentioning that the topic was still the subject of a legal lawsuit.

Regarding the roles of the chairman and the governorship candidate, the Lagos State chapter of the LP has been mired in a leadership conflict.

The Peter Obi Support Network and the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organization have denied rumors that Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s nominee for president, may withdraw from the contest in favor of Abubakar Atiku of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Festus Keyamo (SAN), the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, cited an online source in a message on his verified Twitter account that said Obi and Atiku had made a deal, according to which the former will resign during the campaign and push his supporters to support Atiku in 2023.
