Tambuwal Denies Resigning As PDP Govs’ Forum Chair

The Sokoto State Governor, Waziri Tambuwal, has denied resigning from his position as Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum.

Tambuwal was a PDP presidential aspirant before his withdrawal for the eventual winner of the party’s ticket, Atiku Abubakar, during the party’s primary.

The denial is contained in a press statement signed by the Director General of the forum, CID Maduabum, and made available to newsmen on Friday.

“This is to inform the general public and stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party , that the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum (PDP-GF), Rt Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has not resigned as Chairman of the Forum contrary to some media reports.

“Members of the PDP GOVERNORS FORUM are working behind the scenes to resolve all contending issues concerning the Party. To this end a meeting of the Forum will soon be convened,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, during the PDP’s National Executive Council meeting on Thursday, the party’s the Board of Trustees Chairman, Senator Wali Jibrin, stepped down and he was replaced with former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara.

EXCLUSIVE: Ruling APC Party Sues Electoral Body, INEC, Wants Senate President Lawan Recognised As Yobe North Senatorial Candidate Despite Not Contesting Primary Election

The All Progressives Congress has instituted a lawsuit seeking to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission to recognise Senate President Ahmad Lawan as its senatorial candidate for Yobe North in 2023, SaharaReporters has gathered.

INEC had insisted it would continue to defer to the report of its team which monitored the ruling APC Yobe North senatorial district primary.

Lawan is currently locked in battle with Bashir Sheriff Machina for the ticket.

Machina emerged as the winner of the primary election supervised by INEC officials earlier in the year. The Senate President did not participate in the primary.

At the time the exercise was held, Lawan was pursuing his presidential ambition but lost to former Lagos State governor, Bola Tinubu.

Rather than submit the name of the elected candidate, the name of the Senate President was submitted to the commission by the ruling APC, a move that led to the deliberate omission of their names from the published particulars of candidates in late June.

To clarify the brewing controversy around the seat, INEC, on at least two different occasions, said it rejected the Senate President’s name because he had not been validly nominated for the senatorial seat.

They said their women group, Tinubu-Shettima Presidential Women Council, was ready to mobilise and would soon reel out its programmes.

Senator Tinubu said, “We are here to tell you that the Nigeria women, we are ready. I want to reassure the national chairman that we are all ready to work and then whenever you need us, we are just a call away. And then we are ready to work and ensure victory for our party come 2023.

“We women are ready. We are all ready to mobilize and very soon we will come out with our programmes. The Tinubu-Shettima presidential Women Council, that is what we are called. We are working but we want you to know and to to also commend you for the great leadership you’ve given us and also bringing respectability to our great party.”

Responding, national chairman of the APC, Adamu, assured both wives of Tinubu and Shettima of total support during the 2023 campaigns.
