UCL Groups Table And Match Reviews As Napoli Beat Liverpool 4-1

Ajax 4-0 Rangers: Rangers’ return to the Champions League after a 12-year absence was marred by a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Ajax in Amsterdam.

Despite leading Rangers to the Europa League final last season, manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst said his team “could not compete” with their Champions League rivals, citing the financial disparity between the two clubs.

Napoli 4-1 Liverpool: Liverpool’s Champions League campaign got off to a disastrous start on Wednesday in hot and humid Naples, where sensational Napoli ran out 4-1 winners.

Victor Osimhen set the tone early on, hitting the post within the first minute, before James Milner conceded a fifth-minute penalty, which Piotr Zielinski converted calmly.

Liverpool were stunned into submission, and Osimhen was given his own chance to test Alisson from 12 yards after Virgil van Dijk’s ill-timed challenge was penalised by VAR review.

Alisson saved the Napoli striker’s penalty attempt, but Liverpool’s reprieve lasted only 13 minutes. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia outmuscled Joe Gomez before allowing Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa to slot the ball low past Liverpool’s helpless keeper.

Shortly before the break, substitute Giovanni Simeone, who had come on for the injured Osimhen, turned home a low cross from Kvaratskhelia.

Two minutes into the second period, Zielinski completed the scoring for Luciano Spalletti’s side, while Luis Diaz netted a consolation goal with a well-taken strike.
