Alhaji Tukur Mamu, the publisher who negotiated the release of some victims of the March 2022 Abuja-Kaduna train attack, has opened up on how he was arrested in Egypt alongside members of his family, and detained for 24 hours.
Reports had earlier emerged that Tukur was arrested at the Cairo International Airport while he was on his way to Saudi Arabia for the lesser Hajj. According to the report by Sahara Reporters, the arrest was made on the orders of the Nigerian Government, and he is now being repatriated back to Nigeria.
Speaking about the arrest, Tukur said that nothing incriminating was found on him when he was arrested, and that the Egyptian authorities even informed him that they didn’t have any reason to continue holding him in detention.
He said that he is not afraid of the Department of State Services (DSS) because he has not done anything wrong, and that he wants the whole world to know what is going on.
He said – “We were arrested alongside my family members for the whole day at Cairo Airport. Right now they boarded the next available flight for me and my family members back home to Kano. I’m sure the DSS officials would likely be waiting for me at the Kano airport today. I don’t have anything to hide and I’m not afraid of them (DSS). I swear to God I’m not afraid of them. I just want the world to know what is happening.”
Hopefully, more details about why the Nigerian Government ordered his arrest will be unveiled soon.
