The Kwara State governorship candidate on the platform of the Young Progressives Congress (YPP), Waziri Yakubu Gobir has said that recent defectors from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), into other opposition parties in the state have merely shut the stable doors after the horses have bolted.
Gobir who boasted that there is still room in YPP for all to work together said the parties where they now seek expression don’t have the structures YPP has managed to set up in the last one year.
As part of his ongoing thank-you visits to stakeholders in the various political blocks in the state capital of Ilorin, he made this declaration on Saturday in Adeta, Ilorin.
One of the largest voting blocs in Kwara Central is said to be Adeta, which is located in Ilorin West.
We have personnel set up and prepared at every level, from ward to state chapter. With 2, 887 polling places in the state, we have a sizable voter base.
Gobir stated, “I have been meticulous in my own preparations to the degree that I am aware of those who will be casting my vote going forward.”
The gubernatorial candidate continued, saying that the results in 2023 would be completely different from those in 2019, and that they wouldn’t be based on party recognition.
“It will be about the people, and everyone will answer to their father.
“The voters know us by reputation. They know who to vote for because those who are honest and grateful would not betray trust in office.
“We left APC early enough when we realized it was a sinking ship for this reason.
But I can remember telling our Otoge compatriots to go while they still could, which was widely disregarded.
“I believe they can all understand that APC is a dead horse and there is no need to flog it,” Gobir said.
At latest count, the Social Democratic Party, New Nigerian People’s Party, and People’s Democratic Party, which comprised the “Otoge” coalition that won the 2019 election, have all been fictionalized (PDP).
