According to Wikipedia, Grace Alele-Williams was a Nigerian Professor of mathematics education, who became the first Female Vice-Chancellor in Nigeria. 

Born and Raised in Warri, Delta State, Alele-Williams attended Queen’s College in Lagos, Government School in Warri, and the University of Ibadan. She earned a master’s degree in mathematics while working as a teacher at Queen’s School, Ede in Osun State in 1957. 

Alele-Williams later earned a PhD in mathematics education from the University of Chicago (U.S.) in 1963, becoming the first woman in Nigeria to earn a doctorate degree. She worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Ibadan’s department (and institute) of education from 1963 to 1965. 

Alele-Williams presided over the curriculum revision committee at the old Bendel State from 1973 to 1979. She later served as the chairman of both the Lagos State curriculum review committee and Lagos State examinations boards from 1979 to 1985. 

Alele-Williams had made valuable contributions in the advancement of education in Nigeria by serving in numerous committees and boards. She was also a member of the UNESCO Institute of Education’s governing council.

In 1985, Alele-Williams was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin, becoming the first woman to become a vice-chancellor in Nigeria. She held the position till 1992.

After serving as the University of Benin’s Vice Chancellor, Alele-Williams joined the Chevron-Texaco Nigeria board of directors.

She passed away in March 2022, at the age of 89.
