A Motion Drawing The Attention Of The Federal Government To The Failed Potions On The Benin-Auchi Road Is Before The Senate.

This is rather coming a bit too late. However, it’s better late than never. TrendyNews learnt that, a motion was move on the floor of the Senate today, to draw the attention of the government to the deplorable state of the Benin – Auchi – Okene road by the Senator representing Edo Central Senatorial District, Sen. Clifford odia. Here is the content of the motion:
I moved a motion today in the Senate, on the Urgent need for the Federal Government to intervene on the failed portions of the following Roads in Edo State: Benin-Ekpoma-Auchi-Okene Road, Benin-Sapele Road and Ewu-Uromi-Agbor Road.
The motion was co-sponsored by my other colleagues in the Senate; Sen. Matthew A. Urhoghide and Sen. Francis Alimikhena
In the motion, i noted that these Roads are major Roads which link Edo state to the north and other southern states in the country.
I, also noted that, due to age, wear and tear, certain portions of these Roads are beginning to fail and this development have caused untold hardship on commuters and Travellers plying these Roads.
Furthermore, I expressed my worry over the fact that Transporters are now forced to increase their fares due to increased hours of time it takes for them to arrive at a journey that they would have otherwise spend less time to arrive at, thereby passing the buck to the Passenger and Traveller who now pay higher than expected fare to his/her destination.
I also expressed worry that Socioeconomic activities have been grossly affected in the communities where these Roads are located and the people of Edo state are already growing impatient and weary that they have been neglected by the federal government.
Expectedly, the Senate granted the Prayers of the Motion, which are:
To Urge the federal ministry of works to:
i. Commence immediate repairs on the failed portions of these Roads;
ii. To Provide adequate funding sufficient to complete the reconstruction of these Roads and
iii. To come up with a plan to settle all lingering issues bordering on the dualization of the Benin-Ekpoma-Auchi-Okene Road with contractors and also review the terms and conditions of the contract to meet current realities of inflation.
