Phrank Shaibu, the special assistant to the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, on Public Communications and Strategy, has responded to the statement by the Northern Elders Forum that they are not going to vote along ethnic and religious lines, saying that the Northern elders only reechoed the stance of their principal, and that the focal point in the 2023 presidential election should be based on the unification of Nigeria. Featuring on Arise TV News Night on Saturday, he said,

“The major determinant for this election is hunger and anger. The people are angry. We have never been as divided as we are as a people. We need someone who has got the capacity to unite Nigerians. We need someone who has got the capacity to restructure our economy. We need someone who has got the capacity to fix the educational sector.”

Atiku’s aide said that Nigerians have never been as divided as they are now. He also said that Atiku believes that our differences can be used to bring us all together.

On the issue of the North-South dichotomy in the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Shaibu said the problems of the country go beyond tribal and regional differences and that hunger does not know geography because a man who is hungry in Oyo is the same as one who is hungry in Rivers.
