Gunmen have murdered Apostle Elisha Asuquo, the founder of Mount of Solution Redeemed Church (MSRC), and Pastor Aniekan Ibanga, the pastor in charge of the church, in Ikot Ekang, a community in Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
The assailants, who are yet to be identified, stormed the National Headquarters of the Church around 7:30 pm over the weekend, disrupting an ongoing parish meeting before fatally shooting the clerics.
According to a resident, the gunmen arrived at the church premises on a motorcycle and fled through Abak-Ikot Ekpene Federal Highway after committing the crime.
Apostle Asuquo, from Adiasim in Essien Udim Local Government Area, was handling a crucial marital reconciliation matter before the incident.
Community leaders and representatives from both Ikot Ekang and Ikot Obio Ikpa villages expressed shock and grief over the killings, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation and justice for the victims.
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command spokesperson confirmed the incident and assured that efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
