Just In: INEC Clears The Air On The Legality And Limit Of Presidential Election Funding.
By Ebor Cletus Ralph Jr.
This has been an engaging topic over the last few weeks, especially, concerning the reports that some Nigerians abroad are trying to fund the Peter Obi Presidential campaign. And there’s a wide range of investigation on the legality of Peter Obi’s crowdfunding.
On the Arise TV interview with an INEC Legal adviser, Oluwole Osaze Uzzi, a man who’s reported to be very familiar with the law brings in some clarity on the issue of candidates receiving money from abroad and how legal this act is to the Nigerian constitution. Mr Oluwole clarified that there is no law forbidding a Presidential candidate from receiving money from Abroad.
And then talking about the limit to the amount a candidate can receive, he stated boldly that there is no limit according to the law. He said, ”There’s no limit to the amount a candidate can raise from abroad but there’s a limit to how much a candidate can spend for the election.”
