Kano TikToker Granted Bail: Court Orders Social Media Restriction
Kano TikToker, Murja Kunya, was granted bail by a Kano State High Court under the leadership of Justice Nasiru Saminu. The bail sum was set at N500,000, with two dependable sureties, one being a relative and the other an individual with landed property in Kano municipal.
Murja sought bail after a directive from the Kano Shari’ah Court ordered a psychiatric evaluation. Justice Saminu stressed the importance of Murja’s release, noting her time in custody since February 20 and the upcoming Easter break.
The court registry was tasked with verifying the sureties’ property. Additionally, the judge prohibited Murja from using her social media accounts until the case’s resolution, with a warning of arrest by the Kano Commissioner of Police for any violation.
Furthermore, the judge mandated the attendance of the defendants’ counsel, the Attorney General, representatives from the Hisbah Board, and the Commissioner of Police to address amendments to the Kano State Hisbah Board Amended Law for proper adjudication.
The case has been adjourned until May 16, 2024, for further proceedings. Murja’s arrest by the Hisbah Board stemmed from concerns over her conduct and postings on Twitter, citing allegations of immorality.
