Senator Hope Uzodinma, governor of the state of Imo, has asserted that the Igbo people are responsible for the construction of Port Harcourt, the capital of the state of Rivers.

The governor made these assertions during a birthday ceremony held in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, to honour an elder statesman who was born in Imo State named Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu on the occasion of his 80th birthday. The ceremony was held in honour of Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu.
In a further statement, Governor Uzodinma asserted that there are some individuals who are actively working to rewrite history.
“Igbo people built Port Harcourt. Even if it pleases some people now to try to rewrite history.
“The Igbos built Port Harcourt”, Uzodinma said.
The governor went on to say that the Igbo people have a deep love for Nigeria, which is evidenced by the fact that one can find Igbo people living in every region of the country.
