Neymar Santos Sr., the father of Brazilian football star Neymar Jr., has made it clear that his family will not be involved in the ongoing court proceedings concerning former footballer Dani Alves, as reported by ESPN late Thursday.
Neymar Jr. and Alves were previously teammates at Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, as well as representing Brazil together.
Alves, a former Barcelona and Brazilian player, was convicted on February 22 for the rape of a young woman at a nightclub in Barcelona in December 2022.
The victim, who testified anonymously, recounted how Alves had forcefully assaulted her in a private bathroom despite her pleas to stop, causing her immense distress and fear, according to prosecutors.
Following the conviction, Alves was granted bail by the Barcelona Provincial Court upon payment of one million euros. He was required to surrender his passports, remain in Spain, and report to court weekly.
Subsequently, Alves’ legal team requested a postponement of the sentencing decision by Brazil’s highest appeals court, the Supreme Court, to challenge the legality of his impending imprisonment.
