According to a news that was published by the Nigerian Tribune Newspaper Online yesterday evening, it was reported that the chairman of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, in Imo State, Prince Marshal Okaforanyanwu, has given one of the reasons why some Igbos in the country are asking for referendum.
While he was talking during an interview with Tribune correspondent, Prince said that, the Igbos seeking for referendum felt that, Nigeria has marginalized them in the top government’s positions that are available in the country. He said a Nigerian politician who said Igbos do not have what it takes to win presidency was wrong to have said that because, Igbos are educated and also have all what it takes to lead Nigeria but, the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party, have both denied Igbos this right.
He said, “It was the same thing that triggered the call for a referendum because, Igbos feel that they are being marginalised due to the fact that, they are nowhere in the scheme of things.
When you look through the face of leadership sequentially from the presidency position to vice president, attorney general, Chief Justice of Nigeria and other principal officers that hold the nation, you cannot find an Igbo man.”
He further said that, if Nigeria doesn’t want Igbos to separate then, they should be given share of the country’s national cake as well.
