Customs seize goods worth N38.5m in Katsina

The Nigeria Customs Service Comptroller for the Katsina Area command, Dalhatu Chidi-Wada, on Thursday disclosed that smuggling through the state dropped in May 2022.

He attributed the development to the reopening of the Jibia border which he said, made many people conduct their business legitimately through the land border in the area.

Wada made the disclosure while addressing the press on the activities of the NCS Katsina command in May 2022.

The NCS boss revealed that the command made seizures in which Duty Paid Value worth N38,575,887.00 in the month under review.

Wada also disclosed that the volume of export through Jibia Border within the period included 4,000 metric tones of liquefied Petroleum Gas and 1,000 metric tones of cement.

He added that the reopened Jibia Border provided opportunity to conduct Import and Export legitimately against smuggling through illegal routes.

The NCS boss also disclosed that the Command had re-strategised operation procedures on anti-smuggling activities by constant patrols, surveillance, intelligence gathering and dissemination accordingly.

He added “I wish to advise the business community to comply with all Import and export guidelines for a Seamless Importation and exportation through the re-opened borders.

” Our officers and men of the Command are ready to hit the ground running in the quest to suppress smuggling and enhance revenue collection.”
