US-Based Ghanaian Couple Convicted of Fatally Beating 5-Year-Old Son

  1. A Ghanaian couple residing in the US has been found guilty of second-degree murder in the tragic death of their five-year-old son, nearly three years after the brutal incident occurred.

Valerie Owusu and Emmanuel Addae were convicted of mercilessly assaulting the child with “at least four different implements” over a span of three days in 2021, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office.

Prosecutors revealed that neither Owusu, the biological mother, nor Addae, sought medical assistance or called 911 as the boy’s condition deteriorated. Instead, they took him to a relative’s home, where he was later discovered deceased.

“This young boy endured days of torment at the hands of these defendants, one of whom was his own mother, until tragically succumbing to his severe injuries,” expressed the District Attorney in a press statement.

“Thanks to the thorough investigation by the Suffolk County Police Department and the unwavering efforts of the prosecutors, justice has been served in holding the defendants accountable for this appalling crime.”

The Ghanaian couple is scheduled for sentencing on May 1, 2024, facing the potential of life imprisonment.
