Why Wan-Bissaka is still a better player than Dalot

[ad_1]

Manchester United have played two games in the Premier League so far this season, and they have yet to win a single one of them. They lost their first game to Brighton Hove Albion before going to face Brentford away from home and losing there in humiliating fashion. There could be a lot of things responsible for both losses. It could be a lack of tactical cohesion or team identity. But the certain thing is that Manchester United have players who are unwilling to work hard for the club, which is why some of those players need to stay on the bench. If Erik Ten Hag still manages to keep playing players who are not fit enough to start for the club, he might have a problem.

One of those players who have proven themselves lately is Diogo Dalot. He actually has become a little bit overrated over the course of his time at Manchester United but he has been massively impressive during the last few games. He reclaimed his starting place from Aaron Wan-Bissaka under Ralf Rangnick, and Erik Ten Hag has chosen to stick with him. However, this is becoming a problem because Dalot practically offers nothing to help the team going forward. In fact, his lack of defensive quality has become a sort of hindrance to the development of the team, which means that United are always left exposed at the back post when they try to defend. The first step in trying to have some solid defensive attributes at the back line is to start playing Wan-Bissaka and keep Dalot on the bench just to see how that plays out, especially in big games.

Wan-Bissaka might not be a good attacking full-back, but he is one of the best defensive fullbacks in the world. With Erik Ten Hag and the way he likes to play, Wan-Bissaka could drop into the midfield as an inverted fullback with Jadon Sancho staying out wide to hold a width. The Englishman is also a very good dribbler and can move the ball quickly around the midfield in order to help the team keep hold of possession.
