In an interview with Arise News during the Sunrise Daily program, Cletus Akwaya, former Commissioner for Information, Benue State, said that if ASUU has tried the language of strike for nearly 30 years, is it not time we look elsewhere.

Cletus Akwaya first clarified that he is not working for government and that he is just concerned for Nigerians on the issue of the ASUU strike.

He said that nobody can fought the need to have a quality education deliver to our children therefore anybody is on the same page with ASUU on the need to improve the delivery of education to our students. However, the methodology adopted to bring about these changes is what some of them have concerns about.

He calculated that today is about 204 days since the ASUU strike started. He said people can remember that in the last 30 years, ASUU has gone on strike in each administration that has governed this country. He said the ASUU’s demand has never been completely met.

He observed that having gone through the route for nearly 30 years, ASUU doesn’t appear to be getting to its desired destination, and that is why the strike is still continuing. He said the question is, “If we have tried an approach for nearly 30 years, is it not high time we have a rethink and look at other strategies as well?” because we have used the language of “strike” and it appears that it is not working.
