by Ebor Cletus Ralph Jr

The names of the 16 candidates from political parties who have been given the go-ahead to run in the Rivers State governorship election in 2023 were made public by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday.

Magnus Abe, a former senator for the River South-East Senatorial District who last week defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), was noticeably absent from the list.
The two youngest candidates on the list were Ibraye Tonte of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Somiari Victor of the Action Alliance (AA), both of whom were 37. Tonto Dikeh, a Nollywood actress, served as Tonte’s running mate.
While Tonye Cole, a multimillionaire investor, was announced as the APC candidate in the state, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would be represented by the former Rivers Accountant General Fubara Siminayi.

Other candidates are – Fingesi Tamie (The Action Democratic Party), Cookey Sophia (Zenith Labour Party), Dada Obele Joseph Ngechu (African Action Congress) and Pronen Maurice (Social Democratic Party).

Others are – Dumo Lulu-Briggs (Accord Party), Faye-Ofori Churchill (Allied Peoples Movement), Nwanze Michael (Boot Party), Sobomabo Jackrich (National Rescue Movement), and Gborogbosi Gabriel (Action Peoples Party).
