Makinde approves March 11 for installation of Lekan Balogun as new Olubadan
Oyo State government, under the leadership of Engineer Seyi Makinde, has approved the installation of Senator Lekan Balogun as the next Olubadan of Ibadan land.
Trendynews reports that the State government approved March 11 as the installation date.
Our correspondent recalls that the position of the Olubadan of Ibadan land became vacant as a result of the death of the immediate past Olubadan, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji.
Oba Adetunji, who is regarded as the 41th Olubadan, joined his ancestors in the early hours of Sunday, 2nd January this year.
Makinde approved the installation of Lekan Balogun who will be the 42nd Olubadan.
The installation message was contained in a letter signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Dr Bashir Olanrewaju.
Olanrewaju’s letter addressed to Balogun was titled: “Installation Ceremony: Olubadan of Ibadan”.
The letter reads: “I wish to refer to a letter No.18SELG.243TI/17 of 16 February 2022 on the above subject and inform you that His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Oyo State has approved Friday, 11 of March 2022 as the date of the Installation of the New Olubadan of Ibadan. Once again, Congratulations, Kabiyesi.”
Our correspondent gathered that Balogun, who holds a doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.), had earlier represented Oyo Central senatorial district between 1999 and 2003.
Trendy learned that Balogun’s younger brother, Dr. Muhammed Kola Balogun is currently representing Oyo South Senatorial District at the National Assembly under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The new monarch is from the Ali-Iwo compound in the present Ibadan North East Local Government area of Ibadan.
