Niger NUT decries delay in primary school teachers’ salaries
The Niger State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, has decried the snail speed approach, commitment and intensity being adopted by the state government in tackling the plight of primary school teachers, especially in the area of payment of salaries on percentage in the state.
The union stated this in a press release jointly signed by the State Chairman, Comrade Akayago Adamu Mohammed, and the Principal Assistant Secretary-General, Comrade Labaran Garba.
It stated, “the union wishes to inform all its members at both Primary and Secondary schools level in the state that the Sit at home protest still continues and remained enforced as the union demands in respect to the lingering issues are yet to be squarely addressed by the Government”.
The union also acknowledged the role being played by the Organized Labour towards ensuring that the state government and local government councils proffer lasting solutions on the persistent payment of primary schools teachers’ salaries on percentage.
It then called on all critical stakeholders in the state to urgently intervene in the prevailing challenges facing teachers and the entire teaching profession all with the views to proffer a lasting solution that will save the educational system from imminent collapse.
