Peter Obi, the Labour Party‘s presidential candidate, has outlined the important lessons that the election of William Ruto as president-elect of Kenya has taught Nigerians.
Obi reacted to Ruto’s victory in the Kenyan presidential election and at the Kenyan Supreme Court on Monday, after his opponent Raila Odinga rejected the results and challenged Ruto’s victory in court.
However, in a unanimous decision, the nation’s highest court rejected the petition challenging Ruto’s electoral victory and confirmed his election.
On Monday, via his verified Twitter account, Obi congratulated Ruto and the people of the nation on the court’s confirmation of his victory.
The former governor of Anambra State stated that the confirmation of Ruto’s victory teaches Nigerians vital lessons of courage and hope.
Obi wrote, “I congratulate Kenyan Vice President @WilliamsRuto on the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold his victory in the presidential election. Both at the polls and in the courtroom, he has accomplished a great feat and won a victory.
“By this verdict, it is a double victory for national democracy and judicial independence in Kenya. Recent political events in Kenya, which resulted in Ruto’s victory, provide vital lessons of hope and courage to Nigerians, who are intent on permanently reclaiming their country from the old order. “
