Tambuwal: Fresh Facts Emerge Over Alleged Resignation of PDP Stalwart As Governors Forum Chair

Emerging reports have confirmed that Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state did not resign his position as the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum.

According to Vanguard newspaper, CID Maduabum, the forum’s director-general, debunked the news.

Reports have that Tambuwal resigned his spot to take over a position as the director-general of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign council.

Reacting to the same report, the national publicity secretary of the party, Debo Ologunagba said information on Tambuwal’s resignation was false.

Ologunagba stated that it was his jurisdiction to roll out such information while he maintained that the several reports on his resignation did not come from him.

He said:“It is not true as at this time, I have no information that he has resigned and if he has resigned, I will be in the best position to know.

“Right now, there are procedures for resignation that’s why when the BoT chairman resigned it was communicated to me and I released it to the public.”

Similarly, Governor Tambuwal finally responded to speculations that he resigned from his position as the PDP governor’s forum chairman.

According to a statement issued by the director-general of the forum,CID Maduabum said:

“This is to inform the general public and stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party, that the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum (PDP-GF), Rt Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has not resigned”

Meanwhile, the national chairman of the PDP, Sen Iyorchia Ayu, yesterday survived moves to remove him from office.

Reprieve came the way of the chairman when the 97th national executive committee (NEC) of the major opposition party in the country passed a vote of confidence on Ayu and the National Working Committee (NWC).

The NEC, which is the highest decision making body of the party after the national convention of the party, passed the confidence vote on the Ayu-led NWC at its meeting held at the PDP national secretariat in Abuja.

The 397 members of the NEC including past national chairman of the party, the immediate past Vice President of the country, Namadi Sambo, the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, among others were accredited for the meeting.

The endorsement of Ayu’s leadership by the NEC signals the first time in the party’s history that a national chairman would survive a move by governors to remove him from office.

Indication that he would survive the onslaught emerged Wednesday night during a caucus meeting which he presided over.

The confidence vote on Ayu came just as the group of governors calling for his resignation as a condition for the reconciliation with the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, shunned the NEC meeting.
