The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Thursday, further dashed the hopes of Nigeria’s Senate President, Dr Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan as he seeks a return to the National Assembly in 2023.

DAILY POST reports that Lawan has been locked up in a battle with Bashir Sheriff Machina in his bid to secure a return ticket to represent Yobe North Senatorial district on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

Lawan, a former Education Officer, who worked in Yobe State Ministry of Education, made foray into politics in 1999 and got elected first into the House of Representatives to represent Bade/Jakusko Federal Constituency of Yobe State on the platform of opposition All Peoples Party (APP). In 2003, he contested to represent Yobe North Senatorial seat and won and since then, the Professor of Remote Sensing has been winning elections seamlessly, particularly after he defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) early 2015.

Nigeria’s crude oil production slumped below one million barrels per day in August 2022, the lowest in at least 30 months, Okechukwu Nnodim reports.

Crude oil production in Nigeria dropped again in August 2022, crashing below one million barrels per day to 972,394 bpd, the lowest recorded in years.

The latest figures obtained in Abuja on Thursday from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission indicated that the country’s oil production dropped from 1,083,899 bpd in July to 972,394 bpd in August.

Hence, Nigeria lost about 111,505 barrels of crude oil daily in August, as it was also gathered that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited went to the Federal High Court to canvass special tribunal for the speedy trial of crude oil thieves and pipeline vandals.

Amotekun Corps Arrests 19 Over Burglary, Fraud In Ekiti

Operatives of the Ekiti State Amotekun Corps have arrested 19 persons over alleged burglary and defrauding of innocent citizens.

The suspects were arrested during a raid at various flash points at Atikankan and Okeyinmi areas in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.

Corp Commandant in Ekiti State, Brig Gen. Joe Komolafe (Retd), said 13 of the suspects were arrested at Atikankan for burglary while the rest six were arrested at Oke-Ila and Okeyinmi over alleged swindling of people.

He said items like generating set, iron rods and water pumping machines among others were recovered from them.

US City Pays $540,000 to 12 George Floyd’s Protesters

Twelve protesters who were arrested by the law enforcement agencies during a peaceful rally against the murder of George Floyd in 2020 will receive $540,000.

According to their attorneys, the amount of money was a settlement from Cleveland, a city in Ohio, the United States of America, the Associated Press reports.

The reports, on Wednesday, said some of the 12 demonstrators sustained minor injuries, including being hit with pepper spray during protests on May 30, 2020, which were organised after Floyd’s death at the hands of Minneapolis police.
