Injured Musa, Chukwueze out of Algeria friendly

Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa and Samuel Chukwueze, will miss Nigeria’s international friendly against Algeria next Tuesday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The friendly against Algeria is billed for the Miloud Hadefi Stadium, Oran on Tuesday, September 27.

The pair have been replaced with Godwin Saviour and Ebube Duru.

“We’re regrouping again for a friendly against Algeria on September 27, 2022. Quick update: Injured (Ruled out of the friendly): Musa, Chukwueze, Balogun, Onyekuru. Replacements: Ozornwafor, Godwin Saviour, Ebube Duru, Dennis.”

Musa, who made his first start for Sivasspor on Sunday in their 2-1 loss to Ankaragucu was replaced after 19th minutes by Clinton N’Jie after he fractured his arm in the encounter after stretching his left hand in a duel with a defender.

“Musa’s left arm was fractured and the treatment process has started immediately,” a statement on Sivasspor’s website reads.

They become the third and fourth player to miss the encounter after the duo Leon Balogun and Henry Onyekuru pulled out of the game on account of injuries.

Musa, who joined Sivasspor on September 2 from Fatih Karagumruk has played two matches for his team totaling 48 minutes.

The 29-year-old is Nigeria’s most-capped player in history, having played 106 matches since his debut aged just 17 in 2010.

He helped the Eagles win the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations and played for them at the last two World Cups.

Musa netted twice at both the 2014 and 2018 tournaments, making him his country’s top World Cup goalscorer.

He began his European professional career at Dutch side VVV Venlo and played in Russia, England and Saudi Arabia before moving to Turkish top-flight side Fatih Karagumruk at the end of last season.
