Buhari Has Faith In Our Security Agencies—Lai

Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on Monday, said President Buhari has always believed in the ability of the security agencies to rise to the occasion of restoring peace in the country amidst security challenges.

Mohammed disclosed this in a press release on Monday morning at Abuja, following the first in a series of briefings on the backdrop of security challenges bedeviling the country.

Recall that President Buhari had recently issued directives to the military to crush those terrorising the country in the face of the increasing rate of terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping.

Mohammed said Buhari never lost faith in the ability of Nigeria’s gallant men and women in uniform to rise to the occasion.

When many threw their arms up in the air and felt it was all over, President Buhari remained resolute. When many called for foreign mercenaries to tackle the challenges, especially terrorism and banditry, President Buhari never wavered in his belief in the ability of our gallant men and women in uniform to rise to the occasion and rise to the occasion they did,” he said.

Wike, Not Political Deity—PDP Told

A political pressure group, Deltans Life Matters, Monday, berated the Rivers State Governor, Mr Nyesom Wike over his demand for the removal of Senator Iyorchia Ayu as National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP as one of the conditions for him to let go of his grievances after he lost at the presidential primaries to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

The group in a statement by its Global Coordinator, Mr Moses Abeh, told the party to move on and not allow Wike or anyone be a distraction in the build up to the 2023 general elections.

Kidnappers Targeting Health Workers—NMA

President, Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Uche Ojinmah, says health workers have been targeted in some communities with some of them kidnapped while discharging their duties.

Speaking during a news conference at the end of its National Executive Council meeing in Gombe, he urged government at all levels to address the insecurity in the country.

He urged said extension of doctors’ retirement age was the easiest way to stop brain drain in the profession.

Ojinmah called for proactive measures to control worsening health indicators with a view to tackling brain drain in the sector.

He urged the National Assembly to review the Traditional, Complementary and Alternative Medicine Board Bill to guard against ambiguity in the Act.

Odinga Disagrees With Supreme Court Ruling

The rival of William Ruto in the Kenya presidential election, Ralia Odinga, has disagreed with the position of the Supreme Court which upheld Ruto’s electoral victory.

Chief Justice Martha Koome on Monday, struck out the suit filed by Odinga that challenged Ruto’s victory and subsequently upheld the election of Ruto as the president-elect Kenya.

But in reaction on Monday, Odinga Presidential Secretariat released a statement, saying they disagreed with the position of the court.
