The ADC presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu, in an interview with Arise News, said that his party chairman approached him seeking his support for an extension after he had been the party chairman for seventeen years.

Recall that the news of the suspension of ADC presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu, broke out on Saturday, on an allegation that he engaged in anti-party practices. One of the allegations against him was his support of the idea that the national party chairman should resign his position of chairmanship after 17 years in office.

However, Dumebi Kachikwu has now stated that the issue in his party is an integrity issue.

” We have a generation that says things can’t be done in the order of the old way. We don’t know how the INEC allowed the situation where one chairman ruled since the inception of the party till today, 17 years. The party stipulates a maximum of two terms, each of four years. We don’t know how INEC watched and allowed this for seventeen years.”

He said he only recently became aware of it when he began receiving chatters in some groups where people were complaining that the party chairman had been in office for 17 years and that his term would expire in August.

He said shortly after that time, the party chairman approached him seeking his support for an extension, and he told the chairman that he’d been there for seventeen years and thought he should bow out. Dumebi said he asked him if he could show him any legal basis that it could work legally, he would, but the constitution does not allow it.
