Ondo Assembly sacks two APC lawmakers for ‘hobnobbing with the opposition’

The Ondo State House of Assembly dismissed two lawmakers after declaring their seats vacant due to alleged anti-party conduct.

The two members, Hon. Favour Tomomewo of the APC-Ilaje 2 and Hon. Torhukerhijo Success of the APC-Ese-Odo, were allegedly involved in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDPrecent )’s state governorship primary elections.
The action was taken in response to a letter from the All Progressives Congress (APC) state chairman, Ade Adetimenhin, asking for the expulsion of the two MPs from the House for socialising with the opposition party.
Speaker of the House Bamidele Oloyelogun stated the decision was in accordance with section 109 (1g) of the 1999 Constitution as amended while declaring the seats of the lawmakers vacant.

Oloyelogun said the Assembly had sent a letter to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and called on the electoral body to conduct an election to fill the vacant seats within 90 days.

The Speaker also directed the two lawmakers to return all government properties in their custody to the clerk of the house while all their benefits and entitlements be stopped.
