What Report Revealed About Findings On Wike’s Claim About Rivers State’s Bulk Votes For PDP

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has always boasted that his state has bulk votes which it has given to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the previous presidential elections.

Wike had earlier this week claimed that his state gave PDP the highest number of votes in presidential elections in Nigeria since 1999 more than all other states in Nigeria. A report by The Punch has it that he made the claim at the inauguration of the Etche Campus of the Rivers State University in Abara community of Etche LGA.

However, in a bid to confirm or counter Wike’s claim, Ripples Nigeria decided to verify it with its Fact Check. Having concluded its findings, it released its report on the claim which confirmed Wike’s declaration that Rivers has always given PDP the highest votes more than any other state.

Specifically, the report cited above made it clear that Rivers gave PDP the highest votes during all presidential elections since 1999 except in 2019 when the state came fifth after polling 473,971 behind four other states. Apart from that 2019 presidential election, Rivers has been the major votes base for the PDP and that was why Wike warned the party not to joke with the state or risk losing the bulk votes that come from his state.

This came to the fore amid the crisis between Wike and the PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
