Anita Baker, the inimitable, came to Twitter to celebrate her birthday
and surprised fans by announcing her long-awaited comeback to the
stage. She will begin performing in Las Vegas in May 2022.
Baker, who turned 64 on Wednesday, Jan. 26, signed the tweet with the
initials “ABXO,” but did not provide any other information about the
upcoming engagement.
The “Sweet Love” singer’s most recent residency was at the Venetian
Theater in Las Vegas, where she performed five shows. In May and June
2019 as part of her Farewell Concert Series, however, she’s been
hinting at a comeback recently.
In addition to her time in Sin City, Baker said that she had signed a
new agreement with Rhino Records, following a battle with her previous
label, Elektra, overmaster recordings.
She also announced on social media that she is working on new music.
Classic albums like 1986’s The Rapture, 1988’s Giving You the Best
That I Got, and others have been happily returned to the living legend
since the master recordings issue was settled last September.
Despite her 2005 Christmas album and her 2012 song “Lately” is the
sole prominent presence of her music on DSPs, the eight-time Grammy
winner shared with fans, “STREAM. ON.
