Corruption still ongoing in Buhari's government - Adamu Adamu - Daily Post Nigeria

The Federal Government has maintained no work, no pay for the lecturers despite the ongoing dispute between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). Recall that the Federal government had pledged to meet ASUU’s demands, excluding the months in which they they did not work. The minister of education, Adamu Adamu, stated that the federal government had done a lot to end the strike. This he said in an interview with Channels TV in Abuja on Wednesday on the programme “Politics Today,” but he insisted that the government’s refusal to pay for the months without work. When asked about the government’s sacrifices for university education, he said, Government has made its own sacrifice, and ASUU must make its own. By this he meant that the lecturers should forfeit seven months’ worth of pay because the government is unwilling to cover those months. He made this statement in response to a question about whether the government is prepared to comply to the lecturers’ demand for payment of the salaries for seven months.

It is unfortunate, according to Adamu, if a teacher is unable to make a sacrifice for his students. He claimed that the time lost cannot be made up, so the lecturers must likewise make sacrifices to ensure that the strike is ended. He responded that the federal government feels really badly about the strike when asked about its feelings. The minister added that because he had children enrolled in Nigeria’s public university, he understands the pain of Nigerian students.

However, he assured Nigerians that the prolonged strike by ASUU will end because he would not hesitate to meet with the ASUU’s chairman after this interview and take all necessary measures to put an end to it.
