JUST IN: Kaduna train hostage negotiator, Mamu, reportedly arrested in Egypt

A journalist who has been standing as a middleman in the negotiations and efforts to free the train passengers abducted by terrorists, has been reportedly arrested in faraway Egypt.

The spokesperson for the Kaduna-based cleric, Ahmad Gumi, Tukur Mamu, was allegedly arrested in Egypt on Tuesday.

According to rwports, the cleric was arrested and detained by Interpol at the Cairo International Airport while awaiting a connecting flight to Saudi Arabia.

Mr Mamu is the Publisher of Desert Herald Newspaper based in Kaduna

He was involved in the negotiations leading to the release of some of the victims of the March 2022 Kaduna Train attack.

Mamu announced his withdrawal as the lead negotiator in securing the release of the hostages of the Abuja-Kaduna train attack after he alleged a threat to his life by the Nigerian government.

He noted that the scourge of insecurity ravaging the country defied military solution, charging the Federal Governement on new approaches.

Premium Times reports that Tukur Mamu has been reportedly flown to Nigeria alongside his two wives and one other person.

He is expected to arrive the Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano Wednesday afternoon and may be interrogated further by officials of Nigeria’s secret police, Department of State Security (DSS).
