The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has said that some chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) assisted President Muhammadu Buhari to be re-elected in 2019 by negotiating with him.

Wike, who did not name the PDP members, said they approached him to join in the negotiation but he stood his ground to deliver Rivers State for PDP.

The governor disclosed this on Tuesday during the commissioning of the Rivers State University’s campus in Etche, Rivers State, live-streamed on Channels TV.

Adeyeri Stephen Kunle, a House of Representatives aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for Akoko South West/South East federal constituency, Ondo State, on Tuesday announced his resignation from the ruling party.

Kunle made the announcement in a letter of resignation, insisting his decision was carefully considered.

At the time of this report, he was yet to announce his new party.

“After carefully musing and given to introspection on my exit from the APC, the afterglow gave me further impetus to tender my resignation letter as a bonafide member of our great party, and for proper documentation in line with the party guideline and as enshrined in the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria,” he said.

In his letter, he expressed immense gratitude to the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, and the State Party Chairman of APC for the privilege to be a member of the party.

The All Progressives Congress has slammed the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Iyorchia Ayu, over the crisis within the party.

The APC, in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, obtained on Tuesday, slammed Ayu over his failure to grasp hold of his party’s affairs. The APC mocked Ayu for not taking responsibility for his comments on Wike.

The statement partly read, “As he struggled to deny a statement credited to him that Governor Wike could not father a child, Ayu alleged, ridiculously, that the APC and “other mischievous people” were planting such stories in the media and stoking the feud between him and the Rivers State Governor.”

“Understandably, Chairman Ayu is deep in quicksand and swinging wildly in search of third parties to blame for the internal combustion in the party that he leads. With such an escapist mindset, it is not difficult to see why the meltdown in the PDP has proven intractable on his watch.

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment stated that he sued the Lagos State House of Assembly and not Tinubu.

He said, “I never sued Tinubu. No. I sued the House of Assembly seeking an interpretation of the law.”
